Painting Ceramic Tile For A New Look

If you are tired of the same old ceramic tile day after day, you are probably looking for something newer and more exciting. The good news is that painting ceramic tile is the easiest and cheapest way to give any room a new look, whether it is your kitchen or bathroom. However, it will take a little patience and a little time to get the job done and done right.

Many people have ceramic tile on their wall, counters, and floors. Any of these can be painted, however, it is important to note that ceramic floors chip and scratch quite easily, which will mean it will need to be repainted or touched up now and then.

Before you begin painting your ceramic tile, you will want to make sure that your tile is cleaned spotless. This means that all residues from soap or chemicals should be cleared, there are several brands of harsh cleaners that can be used, but be sure that you rinse thoroughly. After cleaning, wipe thoroughly with alcohol, this will clean the area of any residue that may remain. If mold is a problem, use water and bleach mixed to clean these areas, including in the grout.

Now it is time to get down to the fun, choose any type of semi gloss paint and a solid acrylic primer. The first step is to make sure that you cover any and all areas that will not need to be painted. This can be done using masking tape or blue tape. You may also want to take off any light switch or outlet covers as well. Some areas to consider taping include wallpaper, trim, and wall surfaces, as well as the grout if needed.

Now you will want good house paint, semi-gloss is best. You will also need a mini roller and a paintbrush. First thing is first, you want to prime the area. This will take two primer coats at least. Paint the first coat of primer and then in a few hours, paint the second, give your primer at least over night to dry. After it has dried completely, you can begin to paint.

With either paint or primer, you want to start off with your brush first. This is particularly around areas such as walls, outlets, cabinets, or trim. After using the brush around these areas, the roller can now be used. It is important to use thinner coats of paint. Thick paint coats can cause dripping and streaks that you do not want. You also do not have to use a lot of pressure with painting your ceramic tile.
