Front Porch Designs

All people think differently, so this allows them to think of the perfect design for their front porch. This does not have to be a fragment of your imagination, because it can be done.

You can decide on a porch that wraps around your house or even a porch with tall columns reaching skywards. You could even consider a small porch with enough room for that old-favorite rocking chair – perfect for those warm evening and watching as everybody arrives home from work. The bottom line is that whatever you decide, you can create your own masterpiece that will be one of kind.

Make the decision and put the plans to work. If you have decided on a wooden porch, know that there are a few things you have to keep in mind about the wood-types available to you. Pine is used commonly, and for the simple reason that it has a straight grain. Redwood and cedar have a rougher finish, but the other thing is that these woods hold paint very well. Another reason is that these woods are weather resistant.

Oak can just look just as beautiful when stained, because it does not always look too great when painted. If this type of wood is not prepared properly, it will not last very long in certain weather conditions. Poplar is stronger and also a little denser comparing it to other types of woods, but what it doesn’t have that cedar and redwood do, is the decay resistant quality. Unfortunately, only a few types of wood are used for porch columns, and if you have made your decision and have not chosen any of the woods mentioned above, make sure you ask everything you need to know about the wood you are settling with: including its weaknesses and strength.

If you think you would much rather take a liking to a rock porch or a brick design, you should consider the colors and patterns of the rock, stone or brick. By doing this you will be able to determine which will be the best and also be able to picture it in the exact place you want it featured on your property. This is why it is best for you to choose the design; you know what will look good and match the rest of the house. You should also keep in mind, when choosing your design and materials, the durability as well as resistance of heat it has.

It doesn’t matter what kind of features you would like your porch to have, you can probably have it the exact way you want it. All you have to do is construct a rough plan of what you want and take it to a building company that will be able to do the porch for you. They will tell you if you can have that specific feature or not.

Your front porch has got to look good; it is the first thing that people will see when they come to visit. It is the front of the house that gives the first impression and additionally, it provides a great place to relax instead of hiding away on a porch in your back yard, have one in the front of your house, see what’s going on and know what your neighbors are up to!
