Toilet Repair

The most common type of toilet repair that homeowners have to do is to fix leaks that occur in the toilet. Leaks can occur in the flush box and around the wax seal. There a re a lot of different components to a flush box, such as flapper that controls the water flowing into the toilet. Sometimes this flapper doesn't fall back in place properly when you flush the toilet. This can be cause by excessive wear on the bottom of the flapper or one of the ears that keep the flapper in place may have broken off and is not stopping the water from continually flowing into the toilet. Sometimes, you can stop this flow by simply flicking the handle. But most often you have to replace this rubber flapper.

There is also a rubber seal in the flush box that sometimes wears out and needs to be replaced. The chain and handle can crack off in the flush box. If a leak should develop in the bottom of the flush box, it is usually around the rubber seal that holds the mechanism in place for the water connections. These are easy leaks to repair because there are kits you can purchase at your local home improvement store that contain everything you need to complete the job.

Another area where you can have a leak in the toilet is around the wax seal in the floor. If the leak is around the bottom of the toilet, then this wax seal is generally the culprit. You can try tightening the bolts on the side of the toilet but usually the only remedy is to take the toilet off the floor and replace the old wax seal with a new one.
