Wood Sheds
If you use firewood as a supplementary source of heat or you have a wood-burning fireplace, you will need a place to store that wood in your yard. Wood sheds allow you to store the wood inside a building where it will remain dry and be ready to use whenever you need to use it. However, you do need to ensure that the wood has dried to below 20% moisture before you do put it inside. A shed for wood is basically an uninsulated building and should be big enough to hold at least a year's supply of wood.
You can also have a simple shed made of wood as a storage facility for your unused tools or equipment or even for the children's toys such as bicycles. There are many do-it-yourself kits that you can buy that are easy to assemble on your own. When you have a shed made of wood, you add to the exterior ambiance of your property. You can cover it with the same material as the outside of the house, such as the same color siding so that it doesn't look odd or ugly on your property.
There are several options you can choose in these kits as well. You can choose round or square windows and sheds in various sizes. Most of the sheds consist of 2 x 4 construction, but if you have a lot of snow in winter and your shed has a flat roof, you might want to think about a heavier construction for the roof. If you choose a barn style roof, you can also have windows in the upper story.
The roofs of wooden sheds are usually shingled and since shingles come in different colors, you can match the roof to that of your home. You can even add shutters that are the same as the house. Even if you have the shed for storing wood or for odds and ends, it can look like an extension of your home - even if only from the outside.
